If you’re planning a trip to Universal Studios Orlando for the first time, you’re in for a treat! This place is an absolute blast, and it’s guaranteed to be a trip you’ll never forget! In this accessible guide to Universal Studios Orlando I will tell you all about my experience here, and how accessible the parks are.
First off, let me just say that Universal Studios Orlando is actually made up of three separate parks: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay. Each park has its own unique themes and attractions, so you’ll definitely want to explore all three if you have the time.
Universal Studios Florida is where you’ll find all of the classic movie and TV-themed attractions. This park is home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is a must-see for any Harry Potter fan. You can take a tour of Hogwarts Castle, explore Hogsmeade village, and ride some of the most thrilling Harry Potter-themed rides in the world. If you really are a Harry Potter super fan like me; start off in universal studios Florida, and catch the Hogwarts express to Islands of Adventure, it’s so cool and wheelchair accessible too!
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably been counting down the days until you can finally visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando. Well, the wait is over! This immersive area of the park is an absolute must-see for any true Harry Potter fan.
As soon as you step into Hogsmeade, you’ll feel like you’re really in the magical world of Harry Potter. The attention to detail in the design of the village is absolutely incredible – from the snow-capped roofs to the cobblestone streets. And of course, no visit to Hogsmeade would be complete without stopping by the iconic Three Broomsticks for a Butterbeer or pumpkin pasty.
But the real highlight of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has to be Hogwarts Castle. This massive, detailed castle is home to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, which takes you on a magical journey through the castle and beyond. The ride combines 3D animation with motion simulation to create an experience that feels incredibly realistic. You’ll fly through the castle grounds, dodge the Whomping Willow, and even encounter some of the series’ most memorable moments and characters.
And that’s not all – the Wizarding World of Harry Potter also has the Flight of the Hippogriff roller coaster, which takes you on a ride through the Forbidden Forest, as well as a number of other Harry Potter-themed shops and restaurants. It’s truly incredible!
Accessible Guide to Universal Studios Orlando: What to See and Do

In addition to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are also tons of other amazing attractions in Universal Studios Florida. You can ride the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster. This is the first rollercoaster Grant and I went on, it was beyond epic, and if you want my personal opinion on song, choose: Pump It by the Black Eyed Peas!
Check out the Jurassic Park-themed water ride, and even meet some of your favorite characters from movies and TV shows like The Simpson’s and the Minions from Despicable Me.
Islands of Adventure is where you’ll find all of the action and adventure-themed attractions. This park is home to the Marvel Super Hero Island, where you can meet some of your favorite Marvel characters and ride some seriously thrilling superhero-themed rides.
There’s also the Jurassic Park island, where you can come face-to-face with some of the most terrifying dinosaurs you’ve ever seen. Velocicoaster is intense, in all the best ways! You’ll definitely want to hold on, it’s a bloody fast ride!
If you’re a fan of water rides, you’ll definitely want to check out the Toon Lagoon island, where you can ride the Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls water ride or the Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges.
And if you’re looking for some seriously intense thrills, you can’t miss the Incredible Hulk Coaster, which is one of the most popular rides in the entire park. It’s the only one I didn’t get a ride because they were having technical issues which lasted over an hour and they decided not to reopen as it was close to closing. I’m still gutted about this! But hey, just another excuse to go back!
Last but not least, there’s Volcano Bay, which is Universal Studios Orlando’s water park. This place is absolutely incredible, with tons of amazing water rides, pools, and other attractions to enjoy. You can ride the Krakatau Aqua Coaster, which takes you through the heart of a volcano, or relax in one of the park’s many pools and lazy rivers.
One of the coolest things about Volcano Bay is that you don’t have to worry about waiting in long lines for rides. Instead, you can use a TapuTapu wearable bracelet, which allows you to virtually wait in line and be notified when it’s your turn to ride. This means you can spend more time enjoying the park and less time waiting around.
In terms of what to wear, it’s always a good idea to dress comfortably and wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. If you ‘re visiting Volcano Bay, you’ll obviously want to bring a swimsuit, and towels, a hat or sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun, as well as some sunscreen to keep from getting burned.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of outdoor attractions in the parks, so it can get pretty hot and humid during the summer months. It’s always a wise idea to stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade to avoid getting too hot and exhausted.

If you’re planning on visiting all three parks and experiencing everything they have to offer, you’ll definitely want to plan for at least three days.
You’ll also want to consider purchasing tickets in advance, as prices can vary depending on the time of year and how far in advance you purchase them. And if you’re planning on visiting during peak season, it’s a good idea to book your tickets as far in advance as possible to ensure that you get the dates you want.
One of the coolest things about Universal Studios Orlando is that there are tons of special events and celebrations throughout the year. How Long Are the Queues at Universal Studios Orlando?

As far as queueing time for rides goes, it really depends on the time of year and the popularity of the ride. During peak season, you can expect to wait in longer lines for the more popular rides. One option is to purchase a Universal Express Pass, which allows you to skip the regular lines for an additional fee.
Another option is to visit the parks during off-peak times, such as early in the morning or later in the evening, when the lines tend to be shorter. And if you’re visiting Volcano Bay, don’t forget to use your TapuTapu wearable bracelet to virtually wait in line and be notified when it’s your turn to ride.

Disclaimer: *This was a gifted experience with universal studios Orlando, all thoughts, opinions and images are my own.

Good evening. I am blind, and I was unable to glean any information about visiting universal studios Orlando as a visually impaired person. There is a leaflet image of rides that are accessible with audio description, but the leaflet has no alt text that is readable to a blind person using a screen reader. 99.9% of the information in this article is the information I found on the universal website. I was hoping to get more details about the accessibility options at the park. Did you use any of the audio description for the rides? What was the quality? you talk about the details of the Harry Potter castle but there is no mention as to how you were able to obtain such detailed information. Any information about visiting the park and accessing the rides as a VisuallyImpaired person is greatly appreciate it.
Warm regards.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for this post—it was genuinely useful. My wife is blind, and thanks to your guide, we felt much more prepared and confident visiting Universal. We had a brilliant time, and a lot of that was down to the insight you shared here, which took a look of the stress out of my having to support her in terms of the maps etc in research before hand, and allowed her to be more independent on the day.
Just curious – do you have any plans to cover the new Epic Universe? Would love to hear your take on how accessible it is!
